The City of Hannibal contracted Architechnics to design a new Visitor’s Center Facility that would be a reflection of Hannibal’s “River Town” heritage. The building contains staff offices and exhibition/display space for housing traditional tourism information. The classic mid-1800’s paddle wheel riverboat is the symbol that was chosen to provide key design guidance. Elements of the riverboat were interwoven into the building design, simultaneously nodding to the great past that has formed Hannibal’s identity by using riverboat symbolism, while being manifested in timeless ways with period vernacular materials like board formed concrete walls, lap siding and other details.
