The Addition and Renovation to Baldwin Elementary School was one of the five new elementary schools that were part of the $89 million bond issue passed in 2015 by Quincy voters. This project is unique however in the fact the several existing spaces were repurposed for the new school. The existing gym, auditorium and cafeteria all remained and were renovated while the rest of Baldwin was demolished to make way for the new 53,000 sf new addition.  The new addition houses kindergarten through fifth grade in four classrooms per grade level. The new addition also includes a storm shelter to protect the students from high winds and flying debris. The construction and demolition was phased over two school years while students and staff occupied half of Baldwin. The phased schedule created many complexities that Architechnics was able to work around to provide an acceptable solution. The final building will be state of the art and a new prominent entry and will be a landmark in Quincy for years to come.
