5043 HANNIBAL STREETSCAPE

The city of Hannibal has asked Architechnics, Inc to design the new streetscape for Historic Main St. in down town Hannibal.  The project is, "The Hannibal Main Street Sidewalk and Historic Preservation Project".  It is to be located in a neighborhood that is a Historic District as listed in the National Register of Historic Spaces and contains structures such as the Mark Twain Home and Museums.

This project is funded by the City of Hannibal, Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation and a self assessment of the property owners.  The task at hand is to consider as what is at the surface and that which is below and provide a design that unifies the area as a district.  We will be addressing accessible sidewalks, crosswalks with ramps, historic basement access vaults, and coordination with the surface street pavement renovations  The strategy is to provide a streetscape using salvaged pavers, trees, plantings, signage, and street furniture.  Design will be completed and reviewed so that construction can begin in 2012.
